Avoid bumpy drive on Jabalpur - Maihar road via Katni

If you are travelling to Allahabad via Jabalpur I would suggest all who love road journey to ignore NH- 7 or Kanyakumari road (that what google says). I have faced the pain travelling via this route.

While coming back from Bokaro Steel City (Jharkhand) to Pune (Mahrashtra) instead of travelling via Rourkela and Raipur I thought to explore the GT Road and so took an alternate route ....via Allahabad and Jabalpur. Although drive on GT road was good but when I took NH-27 the drive was not that smooth. But still it was much better than the road between Jabalpur and Maihar.

After reaching Maihar in night I took a stay in MP tourism hotel close to temple.
The next day after offering prayer at temple once again I started my journey for Pune via Jabalpur.

It was just 3 km from Maihar city and the horrible journey started. To add more pain to this journey was rain even though it was March there was heavy rain and water got clogged on the roads.
After water clogging it was difficult to guess the depth of the craters. I am lucky that I was travelling in Scorpio otherwise I would have got my vechile damged.

Maihar to Jabalpur is just 160 KM but it took 6 hrs to reach Jabalpur.

After this horrible journey I decided to find an alternate route and the with help of my friends I was able to find one.

From Maihar instead of taking Kanyakumari road take SH-22 i.e. Umariya road.
You can feed these cities in your GPS and get going.

BARAHI ----- UMARIAYA ---- SHAHPURA ----- KUNDAM --- JABALPUR

Offcourse if you follow this route you need to drive 70 km extra but the drive is amazing. Most of the time needle of the speedometer will point between 80 and 100 Kms/hr. On this route you will be cross through Bandhavgarh National Forest which will refresh your mood.

Happy Driving !!!
